About Me

Sharing my Passion

Marilyn Hunt was born in Pouce Coupe, B.C. (1956), but has spent most of her life on the West Coast of British Columbia.

She comes from a long line of hard working pioneers and lovers of the land. Being surrounded with creative expression, fine craft and fine art in her youth was the perfect bedding ground for the growth of her artistic nature and passion for painting and creating in various mediums. While living on the west coast of Vancouver Island in the 1960’s, Marilyn was forever imprinted by the Salish First Nations in Ucluelet, Port Alberni and Tofino.

Her career as a professional artist began in Victoria, B.C. in the early 90’s. Drawn to the small, often un-noticed details of nature, Marilyn has made it her artistic mission to magnify these characteristics in the uninhibited cycle from reproduction, growth and beauty, to the final decay. Her ability to focus on the small miracles around us, educate and intrigue.

Marilyn has made it her artistic mission to draw small un-noticed details of nature.

Painting on a large scale, Marilyn magnifies the wonders of nature and takes us on the journey of plant-life from the roots to the sky and into the workings of life above and below the ground. Roots, water, the rocks and soil come alive on canvas in vibrant colour and movement. Marilyn paints primarily in acrylic but an on-going curiosity for mediums and texture, produces many works in oil, wax and found objects. Her paintings throughout her career tie her childhood experiences and a love for the natural landscape of Canada together.

Marilyn Hunt’s paintings involve and move the viewer to stop and listen to the booming silence of life. In 1994 she moved to the Fraser Valley and currently lives in Langley where she continues to express her inspirations from her home studio.
